On May 6, 2023, a new school building—donated by the Chamber of Commerce to Kompong Krobey Primary School in Kampong Thom Province—was officially completed and put into use. This marks the fourth primary school jointly funded by The Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce and Golden Charity.
Kompong Krobey Primary School is located in Kompong Krobey Village, Bak Sna Commune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province. Situated in a remote area approximately 170 kilometers from Phnom Penh, the school currently serves 49 students with two teachers. Its previous facility—a wooden structure with three classrooms built in 2006—had fallen into severe disrepair after more than a decade of exposure to the elements; during the rainy season, swarms of black insects would fly into the classrooms through cracks, making it impossible for lessons to proceed normally.
Following a site visit and consultations with school officials, the charity volunteer team decided to fund the following improvements:
- A new school building with three classrooms (Total cost: $40,157)
- Desks and chairs (including furniture for teachers): $1,365
- Restroom renovation: $1,500
Total: $43,022 (Forty-three thousand and twenty-two US dollars)
The fundraising appeal received an enthusiastic response from nearly 200 benevolent individuals and enterprises, and the necessary funds were quickly raised. After three months of intensive construction, the new building was officially handed over to Kompong Krobey Primary School on May 6, 2023.
On the day of the handover ceremony, many kind-hearted individuals and volunteers arrived at the school and were warmly welcomed by the teachers and students. The students performed programs centered on themes such as education, etiquette, and hygiene, showcasing their youthful innocence and vibrant energy.
