At 5:00 AM on June 18, before dawn broke, volunteers from Golden Charity and the Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce were already geared up and ready to head to Veal Krosang Primary School in Kampot Province. They brought school supplies—such as books, schoolbags, and notebooks—for the children there.
This charity event was jointly organized by Golden Charity and the Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce. Centered on the theme “Knowledge is a Treasure Trove,” the initiative aimed to encourage students to study hard and change their destinies through knowledge, helping them realize the importance of learning.
As COVID-19 has not yet been fully brought under control, the first actions taken by the volunteers upon arrival were to sanitize the students, check their temperatures, ensure they wore masks, and educate them on preventive measures against the virus.
Subsequently, the volunteers worked alongside the students to clean classrooms and the campus, as well as plant vegetables and trees. Through these activities, they promoted the concepts of environmental stewardship and hygiene, while encouraging students to develop practical skills and realize that they could improve and create a clean, beautiful living environment with their own hands.
The volunteers distributed school supplies—including schoolbags, books, and notebooks—to the students and provided the school with cleaning tools such as brooms and trash cans.
Veal Krosang Primary School is located in the mountainous area of Veal Krosang Village, Takaen Commune, Chhouk District, Kampot Province. Situated in a remote location with underdeveloped infrastructure, the school suffers from unstable mobile phone signals. Upon learning of the school’s situation, Golden Charity and the Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce decided to provide support to both the school and its students.
Principal Pong Shaodan stated that the school was established in 2003 and currently has seven classrooms. The students come from nearby villages; the school serves 313 students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 6, with a teaching staff of six. The students typically have access to a limited variety of books, resulting in a narrow scope of knowledge.
“We are deeply grateful for this assistance. You have not only provided the students with school supplies and improved their learning environment, but also broadened their horizons, enabled them to acquire new knowledge for their studies and daily lives, and allowed them to experience the enthusiasm and compassion of the volunteers.”
Founded in 2015 by Ms. Jen, the Golden Charity organization is dedicated to assisting vulnerable groups in society. Its efforts include providing daily necessities, improving living conditions, and engaging in initiatives to enhance education and disseminate knowledge. The organization also mobilizes compassionate volunteers to participate in charitable activities and has successfully hosted 26 charity events of various scales to date.
Since its establishment in 2019, the Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to charitable endeavors, encouraging youth entrepreneurship, building bridges between China and Cambodia, and fostering cultural and economic exchanges. Even while COVID-19 was not yet fully under control, members—while taking necessary personal precautions—actively participated in public welfare activities, such as distributing face masks to the public, donating anti-epidemic supplies to relevant Cambodian authorities, and supporting students in remote mountainous areas.
