Supporting Education: Chamber of Commerce Donates Books to School

This morning (the 30th), the Associate Cambodia Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce donated a collection of books to the library of Svay Prahout School in Svay Prahut Village, Kouk Pring Commune, Svay Chrom District, Svay Rieng Province.

Upon learning that the Svay Prahout School library lacked sufficient reading materials, the Chamber of Commerce donated over 200 newly purchased books, two computers, thermometers, alcohol disinfectant, and other supplies to the school on the morning of August 30.

Principal Kong Narin expressed deep gratitude for the Chamber’s generous act. Since its establishment in 1983, the school has evolved from a primary school to include a lower secondary section, and finally a high school section in 2019. With the student now exceeding 1,000, the existing library collection could no longer meet student needs; the new books donated by the Chamber will enrich the library and encourage students to read more and broaden their horizons.

The principal noted that while the school has begun enrolling high school students, it currently only possesses classroom buildings for primary and lower secondary levels, resulting in a shortage of classrooms. Plans are underway to construct a high school building—scheduled to begin next year with a budget of approximately $70,000—but the necessary funds have not yet been secured, and he hopes the Chamber might be able to assist.

Mr. Hai, President of the Cambodia-China Youth General Chamber of Commerce, commended the principal for his planning and efforts regarding the school’s development.

He stated that the Chamber and its members are committed to charitable causes in Cambodia, with a particular focus on basic education. The Chamber’s goal in this sector is to build infrastructure and improve learning environments for at least one school in an impoverished area each year.

Currently, a primary school classroom building funded by the Chamber in Oddar Meanchey Province is under construction and expected to be completed by the end of October. Additionally, the Chamber is developing projects related to the education system, hoping to contribute to addressing the challenges of weak basic education and a shortage of human resources in Cambodia.
